Another near defeat

July 11th, 2026 — Meera

Finally I am making some progress in my academic lessons and research. There is still not a 100% reproducibility on the effects of what I’ve learned, but I’ve been able to show it well enough that my fellow Rain Scribes finally start to believe in what I’m doing as well. I still had a lot of late nights, but maybe, just maybe, soon, I can finally have a normal night of sleep again.

Today was very tiring, mainly because it was a very physically active day. “Anadi appreciation day.” Well, I for one appreciate their physical prowess, but I am tired. Oh, and we met Esi’s mom, Mrs. Tahenkot. She’s nice and…

As was announced when we became Conversants, we have to help out further out from the city. In this case just on the edge between the city and the jungle. Usually a very nice place to be, but this orchard had attracted Angraffs (big earwigs). And while that is annoying we could remedy it. Regretfully there was also an almost fully grown Angraff hivemother. And here we made a mistake. Instead of taking our time to prep, we thought we had to dispose of the nearly fully grown hivemother quickly, or she would become even more dangerous. But going into a fight with not enough information and not enough prep is also very dangerous. Her mantis-like front appendages could reach so far away from her main body, that we had a serious problem properly attacking her. In the end we were able to have her flee, but next time we’re probably better off taking a couple of hours to do some additional prep work, because it was also nearly a defeat.
