Culture

July 11th, 2026 — Matuas

We hold a Anadi culture day. Loads of students come and join in, even Okora shows up and joins in. I see everyone participating and am overwhelmed by the feeling of belonging which I did not dare to hope to experience anywhere apart from home. We did all kind of competitive games, tried to incorporate magic with typical Anadi stuff (webs!!) and the kids of Tzeniwe also had a blast. I love this kind of stuff, building community, maybe that’s more my area of expertise instead of all the (sometimes) boring history and tales of the Uzunjati. I can see myself learning tales as a tool to get people to come together, instead of trying to force myself to find them interesting as and of themselves.

Esi has a mother, who apparently is a teacher at the academy. She is a master in flying magic. We get asked to take care of some bug problems near a farm, which is just as well, because I’m getting hungry again. I love being able to express this to my party, even though some visibly gag at the notion of eating bugs, it’s still so nice to truly be myself around them, and I am so thankful to them. It turns out the bugs are forming a colony and being truly truly dangerous. We try to take care of the almost-queen, but she is too strong and when almost killed dives underground to flee. Our party tactics were better than normal, but still not enough… We asked around campus for pointers and we got a lot of tips. I think it’s also time to get some magical rune for my armor, to make it even harder.
